Lukas Van Loggerenberg
Lukas hails from a small town near Cape Town, South Africa. He grew up amongst wine farms and it was here that his passion for wine making began.
Lukas decided to pursue his dream by enrolling in South Africa’s most prestigious wine making institute,
Elsenberg near Stellenbosch. In 2009, he graduated with a degree in viticulture and oenology, the study
of vineyard management and winemaking respectively. After graduation, he went directly to one of
South Africa’s most renowned cellars, Rijk’s Private Cellar, where he worked along side Pierre Wahl, one of
the country’s most acclaimed wine makers. Rijk’s reputation precedes itself for making some of South
Africa’s most notable wines from the varietals pinotage, shiraz and chenin blanc.
Lukas had always dreamed of living and working in the United States. When he saw the winejobs ad
for Haight-Brown Vineyards (HBV), he applied. When he interviewed with South African HBV partner,
Jacques Muratori, he felt that the move to the USA and the position at HBV was fate. Lukas received his
visa and flew over from Cape Town on September 15th arriving in New York’s JFK at 6:40 am. By 11 am
he was participating in tours at the annual Harvest Festival.
Lukas is settling into life in Litchfield. He is busy in the cellar completing wine making activities related
to this year’s harvest. Soon he will participate regularly in cellar tours, wine maker fireside chats and
tastings, as well as an occasional dinner. We are thrilled Lukas is here. Faithful patrons, please come
stop by and welcome Lukas to HBV, Litchfeld and the USA. He is a gem!
